LIVE UPDATES: Defence teams make long-awaited case for acquittal in Lich, Barber convoy trial

Defence teams for Tamara Lich and Chris Barber will make their long-awaited case for acquittal as the accused convoy leaders’ trial is nearing its end.

The trial commenced on Sept. 5, 2023, and heard evidence from 16 Crown witnesses across 27 trial days. Crown attorneys Tim Radcliffe and Siobhain Wetscher made their final submissions for convicting Lich and Barber over two days of hearings this week.

The defence elected to call no evidence during the high-profile trial, and defence lawyers will instead make their case for acquittal during closing arguments, beginning Thursday morning before Ontario Court Justice Heather Perkins-McVey.

Barber’s defence lawyer, Diane Magas, will go first in the proceedings, followed by Lich’s defence team of Lawrence Greenspon and Eric Granger.
